Prowlers outlast Anthony
The Fort Stockton Prowlers needed five games, but got a District 4-3A volleyball win Saturday, defeating Anthony 25-19, 15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10.
Abry Herrera led the Prowlers with 10 kills. Teammate Yesenia Ybarra had seven kills.
Alaina Granado recorded seven kills, two blocks and three service aces for Fort Stockton. Korinne Acosta added four back row kills in addition to 28 digs and seven service aces.
Lindsey Horton had 16 digs for the Prowlers.
"We fought through some struggles and achieved a win," Fort Stockton coach Angela Lujan said.
In the junior varsity match, Fort Stockton won 25-18, 25-17.
Also Saturday, the Balmorhea varsity defeated the Fort Stockton freshman squad 22-25, 25-14, 25-11, 22-25, 15-6.
Tuesday evening, the Prowlers went another five games, but the San Angelo Lake View Maidens won the nondistrict match 25-15, 19-25, 25-12, 18-25, 17-15.
Ybara had seven kills for Fort Stockton, and Alaina Granado recorded six kills and a pair of blocks.
Herrera added three kills and five blocks, and Gabby Salmon had three blocks for the Prowlers.
Acosta had four service aces and 16 digs, and Brianna Granado recorded two service aces and 13 set assists. Horton had 11 digs.
"The fight the girls had tonight was incredible," Lujan said. "(I'm) extremely proud of the girls and the heart that was shown tonight."
In the JV match, Fort Stockton defeated Lake View 25-14, 25-22. The freshman Prowlers also won, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20.
Fort Stockton will host Fabens in a District 4-3A match Saturday.
