New doctor joins Family Medical Clinic
Raised in North Carolina, Dr. Larry Boyd was used to seeing a lot of green in his surroundings.
Spending 13 years in Denver City apparently cured him. After a move to Indianola, Miss., Boyd is back in West Texas. He started Aug. 4 at Family Medical Clinic at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in general practice and obstetrics.
"We thought we wanted to go find some trees and green grass," Boyd said. "It was a mistake."
Boyd and his wife Sharon have eight grown children, all of whom live in Texas, he said.
Boyd is now in his 17th year as a physician. A native of Greenville, N.C., Boyd went to medical school at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., after graduating from the State University of New York at Albany.
Boyd is also a commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Duty assignments have taken him overseas, including postings in Ghana, Malaysia and Mexico.
Boyd has also traveled overseas as a missionary doctor. His most recent mission took him to Honduras about two years ago, he said.
Boyd is a former naval aviator and continues to fly. He owns two aircraft: a Comanche 400 and a Beechcraft Duke.
Boyd said he is also a sometime hunter. He said he's been on hunting trips to Alaska and the Eastern Cape region of South Africa.
"I also play golf, but not very well," Boyd said. "Mostly, I've been a doctor."
