Pioneer welcomed new reporter

Bob Varmette has joined the staff of the Fort Stockton Pioneer as a staff writer. Varmette, 44, assumed his position at The Pioneer on Monday.

Prior to coming to The Pioneer, Varmette was a sportswriter for 5 1/2 years at The Bakersfield Californian, a 60,000-circulation daily serving the southern Central Valley of California. Varmette covered primarily community and high school sports.
Varmette was also a prep sportswriter at The Journal of New Ulm, Minn., and the Hereford (Texas) Brand.

Varmette is an honors graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
