PCCC approves bids on Monday
The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved two bids concerning the Iraan Golf Course during its regular session Monday at the Pecos County Courthouse.
The commissioners approved unanimously a bid from Highland Concrete Company for about 200 cubic yards of concrete at 3,000 psi for cart paths and concrete slabs at the nine-hole Iraan Golf Course. The bid price was $94 per cubic yard.
The commissioners also approved a related bid for labor and materials. The bid for $1.85 per square foot was awarded to West Texas Contractors to form, pour and finish the planned cart paths and concrete slabs at the course.
In other action regarding bid awards, the commissioners voted to table the awarding of a bid for fuel for Pecos County until the April 14 meeting. The court received two bids for fuel, one from United Fuel Energy and the other from Southwest Marketers, for unleaded gasoline and two grades of diesel.
The commissioners also unanimously approved a motion to open a call for sealed bids for a 2008 light duty one-half ton pickup for Precinct No. 1. The bids are scheduled to be opened at the Commissioners Court regular meeting April 14.
The bid specifications call for a white Ford F-150, Chevrolet C-1500 or equivalent extended cab, two-wheel drive truck with a full bed, 5.4-liter V-8 engine, automatic transmission and a trailer towing package with a frame mounted receiver hitch, among other specifications.
Delivery of the vehicle is to be made within 90 days of the bid award.
The commissioners also considered a request from West Texas Rocketry for a scheduled hobby/high power rocket launch May 2-4 on farmland owned by Larry Drgac about eight miles southeast of Girvin. West Texas Rocketry said it has been holding regular launches from the site since December 2006.
West Texas Rocketry said water containers will be located near the launch site and a trailer-mounted 1,000-gallon water tank with pump will be used for fire suppression. Jim Ballard, a firefighter with the Odessa Fire Department and a senior advisor to West Texas Rocketry, will be on site to oversee launch activities and fire suppression, if necessary.
After some discussion by the commissioners, the court elected to not take any action regarding the agenda item. The court reached the decision after noting that the county burn ban was not applicable to the launches and that no fireworks ban was in effect.
The commissioners court also took no action regarding a lease agreement with Sandridge Energy for pipe storage on railroad property. The issue was placed on the agenda for the commissioners meeting March 31.
