Pecos County Livestock Show on its way

Besides sharp winds and cold temperatures, and what always seems a premature end to the holidays, January brings the annual Pecos County Livestock Show. This year, 87 4-H and FFA members are scheduled to exhibit their livestock, horse and Ag mechanics projects on January 12-13 at the Pecos County Coliseum. They have worked for a year on these projects.

On Saturday morning, January 12, starting at eight a.m., exhibitors will show their heifers and steers, market hogs, angora goats, boer goats, dorper sheep and range ewes. At 10 a.m., the plant identification display will be up for all who wish to try their skill at naming area plants. The agriculture mechanic projects will be on display and judged at 11 a.m.
Starting at noon, barbecue will be prepared and served by the Bowles, The Pasqua's and Crew in the Civic Center.

Registration for the pet contest begins at 11 a.m., the judging will start at 1 p.m. The Community Pet Show is open to everyone, so bring your pets and be a part of the 2008 Pecos County Show.

The benefit Auction is at 1:15 p.m. The proceeds from the donated items go to the exhibitors of the show.

At the conclusion of the auction, the exhibitors will bring out their market lambs, rabbits and market meat goats.

That night, the Fort Stockton FFA will sponsor a dance at the Pecos County Civic Center for exhibitors and their families. This is a non-alcoholic event.

All funds raised go to the benefit of the exhibitors. Last year, after the prize money was awarded to the winners. The excess funds were distributed to each exhibitor in the amount of an additional $166. Donations will be taken to support the premium monies distributed to the exhibitors. Pecos County Livestock Show does not hold a premium sale, but distributes the funds raised on an entry per class basis. An exhibitor can only get two awards per class. Additional monies raised this year, above the premiums handed out, will again be awarded to the each exhibitor on a per exhibitor basis.

The Directors of the Pecos County Livestock Association are committed to following the By-Laws that state that of all funds raised are to support of the County Livestock Show and the exhibitors. The Board of Directors wants to thank the community and the donors for the generous support they provide to the youth of the 4-H and FFA Programs in Pecos County.
