John Roger Ripley

Fort Stockton

February 9, 1948-September 30, 2007
Early Sunday morning, September 30th 2007, John Roger Ripley's loving spirit departed his earthly body so he could soar the heavens, free of pain and suffering brought on by the ravages of cancer. His freedom journey began at home, with honor and dignity, while surrounded by the love and companionship of close family and friends.

John was born on February 9th, 1948 in Middletown, California. He served in the Armed Forces from 1968 -1972, which included his service to our country while completing his tour in Vietnam. Having settled in San Antonio, John embarked on a career with the United States Postal Service.

On February 25th, 1984 John married Lori Mascorro and hence, began a new life chapter as a devoted husband and soon thereafter, a new father. In 1994, he was assigned the position of Post Master and moved his young family to the picturesque mesas of Fort Stockton, Texas. Whether John was participating as a member of the Noon Lions Club, shooting photos as the former sports photographer for the Fort Stockton Pioneer, or sharing his love of photography to enhance a Fort Stockton family album, his presence was an expression of genuine commitment to community and friends.

He made no secret of his passion for team sports, be it the Fight'n Texas Aggies, New York Yankees, or the San Antonio Spurs. That same passion was dually noted in his desire to venture miles into the desert searching for Indian artifacts or taking the time to seek out the ultimate golf course to hone his talents as a skilled golfer.

With a life so full, no joy was truly more apparent than his commitment and dedication, to his greatest life achievement, an endless love for his wife and children. To those who knew him, John was undoubtedly a man of, charm, wisdom, wit, and infectious charisma.

John's memory and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his devoted wife, Lori Ripley and their three beautiful children, John Wesley, Sunny Lynn, and Darcy Leigh Ripley. Other survivors include his mother, Katherine McDonald of Corvallis, Oregon, sister, Connie Gladdish of Salem, Oregon, aunt and uncle, Erma and Ron Drahn, of Corvallis, Oregon, his San Antonio family; mother and father-in-law, Betty and Val Mascorro, sister-in-laws, Nancy Mascorro and Jo Mascorro Saylor, and his nephew and niece, Eric Mascorro and Hallie Saylor.

A very special thanks and many blessings to those family and friends who assisted in caring for John, toward the end of his life journey, including; the awesome "WAWA" Sisters of Fort Stockton, "brother" and sister-in-law, Richard and Sue McDonald and their children, Shannon, Chris, and Shane, and brother-in-laws Skip Mascorro and Dave Saylor, all of San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Believers Fellowship Church in Fort Stockton. Burial will follow in the East Hill Cemetery with arrangements being coordinated by Steve Hampton and with Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane, Texas.
