Mehan Reaches set Business Goal
In 2004, Vern Mehan established Mehan & Sons, a HVAC services and installation company, located at 701 North Rooney in Fort Stockton. Mehan is a certified HVAC technician and an authorized Rheem dealer. He operates his business as a sole proprietorship and serves Fort Stockton and the surrounding area.
Since opening for business, Mehan's sales have been steadily improving. Along with growth come many challenges. For Mehan, meeting the rising cost of expenses, a situation common to growing enterprises, was straining his financial resources.
Mehan was referred to SBDC Counselor, Loretta Garcia, by the Fort Stockton Economic Development Council executive director, Doug May. Garcia and Mehan quickly assembled a loan application for an SBA Express loan. In the process, Mehan committed his entire business assets as collateral.
Pecos County State Bank president George Hansard approved the loan application in March 2007. As a result of this loan, one job was retained in Fort Stockton.
Mehan trained in HVAC at the Phoenix University Technology Institute, graduating in 1988. He worked in Houston and then at the prison here for eight years. He and his wife, Candy, have two sons, Brandon, 15 and Joshua, 10.
"It was always my goal to earn my own business," said Mehan, and "I kept working until I realized it."
