What's Happening At Intermediate
Congratulations to 5th grade student Alexis Chavez! She will be attending the National Young Scholars Leadership Program this summer at the Shriner University in Kerrville, Texas. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has awarded Alexis a $1000 scholarship to attend.
Mrs. Dulaney's 5th grade science students will be studying about the ecosystems of animals in preparation for the "Endangered Animal" project that they will be doing in a couple of weeks.
Mrs. Estrada's reading students are working on "Story Impressions" this week. The students are given a list of words and phrases taken from a story they haven't read. The students must write their own story using these words and phrases. When they have completed their story they read the "real" story. The students then do a compare and contrast activity in which they show the similarities and differences between their story and the real story.
Ms. Rodriguez's 4th grade math students are factoring, finding the greatest common factor, and simplifying fractions. They need to continue studying their multiplication facts to be successful with simplifying fractions. Study daily!
Mrs. Lindley's and Mrs. Almendarez's 4th grade science students are testing the density of different liquids this week.
Ms. Bagrich's 5th Grade Social Studies Class will make clay from flour, salt and water and then mold the clay into a design of their own compass rose. Students are also learning how to select information and design a power point presentation on a specific state they have researched.
Fifth grade science teacher Mr. Villarreal hopes that the severe storms unit covered last week has been helpful for students and families during these past storms. This week students in preparation for the endangered species project will be studying and discussing a unit on surviving in the ecosystem.
Mrs. Hurt's 5th grade social studies students are studying about the Monroe Doctrine. One class is creating a quilt from a story that they have read and will be presenting their projects on Thursday and at the beginning of next week.
